All you need to know about filling in the W-8BEN-E form

Updated over 5 months ago

*Applicable for FR Business accounts only.

If you are having a Business account in our app you might have received an email from our team, mentioning the option of submitting a W-8BEN-E form. You can fill in and sign the W-8BEN-E form and send it to us via email, at: support-team@shares.io. You can also proactively contact our team and send us your signed W-8BEN-E form.

Why do we ask for your W-8BEN-E form?

We ask for the W-8BEN-E form from you to report it to the tax authorities in the US and as a result to lower your tax rate on capital gains and dividends received from trading US stocks. Providing this form is not obligatory. As a verified Business user you can still trade both EU and US equities in our app, without providing us with this document. However, we highly encourage you to do so.

Why is it useful to provide your W-8BEN-E form?

Providing your W-8BEN-E form is very beneficial, particularly if you trade in US securities. It allows you to benefit from a reduction in the rate of tax on capital gains and dividends received from US companies on Shares from 30% to 15%. This reduction is the result of a tax treaty between France and the US.

How can you fill in your W-8BEN-E form?

  1. Access the W-8BEN-E form and download it.

  2. Fill in all the required details in the form and sign it.

  3. Send the filled and signed form to our Support Team via email, at support-team@shares.io and that’s it - our team will forward the document to appropriate authorities, to make sure your rate on dividends and gains received from US stocks is lowered. 💪
